The appearance of our eyebrows can have a massive impact on the rest of our faces, so many people will use makeup to fill in their eyebrows daily, which can become tedious. If you like the appearance of your eyebrows being filled in but are tired of having to apply the makeup to achieve that look every single day, microblading is a great semi-permanent option that provides beautifully natural results.

What is eyebrow microblading?

Eyebrow microblading is a type of cosmetic procedure that tattoos pigment to fill in existing eyebrows or create new ones to make them appear fuller. It does not use a traditional tattoo and instead uses a handheld microblading tool with needles on it to gently break the surface of the skin to place the pigment. It is a great, lasting option for those who want the appearance of fuller eyebrows but don’t want to have to do them every day.

Does eyebrow microblading hurt?

The total amount of discomfort or pain that is experienced during the microblading procedure is dependent on the pain level of the patient. Most eyebrow microblading providers will opt to use a numbing cream on the area that will be treated to minimize discomfort as much as possible, and microblading is reportedly less painful than a traditional tattoo. However, it is reasonable to expect some level of pain or discomfort during the procedure.

Is eyebrow microblading permanent?

Eyebrow microblading is not classified as permanent makeup as it is a semi-permanent option but is much longer-lasting than any products available for filling in eyebrows. However, microblading can provide natural results once it has fully healed and fades very gradually, allowing plenty of time before a touch-up appointment is needed to maintain the pigmentation. Microblading is also not as permanent as a traditional tattoo because the two types of tattooing use different kinds of ink.

How long do microbladed eyebrows last?

It is common to have the results of eyebrow microblading last anywhere from 1 to 3 years before fading entirely. As long as a licensed professional performs the procedure, the pigment will fade naturally over time, allowing for touch-ups to be done once the pigment has faded a fair bit. It is common to suggest annual touch-ups to patients to maintain their preferred amount of pigmentation. It is important to provide clear after-care instructions following the microblading procedure to ensure that the desired results last for as long as possible. Similar to traditional tattoos, microbladed eyebrows can fade faster when exposed to sunlight, so make sure to apply SPF and protect the eyebrows when going out in the sun. Additionally, some people’s skin can hold onto the pigment better than others, so the amount of time that the microblading results last is dependent on their skin type as well.

How long does it take for eyebrow microblading to heal?

Since the needles in the microblading tool break the skin a bit to deposit the pigment, it can take between 25 to 40 days before you have completely healed. The speed at which you heal can depend on various factors including age, skin type, and overall health. The eyebrows will seem to initially heal with a much darker pigmentation than the desired result, however, within 10 to 14 days, the final pigmentation results should be attained. The skin beneath the eyebrows will typically feel a bit tight and sensitive for the first few days while the skin develops scabs, likely feeling fairly itchy, and eventually peeling during the healing process. This skin will continue to peel for a few more days, and it is important to make sure that the patient is not picking at the skin but is allowing the skin to peel off naturally. Once the flaking stage is complete, the final pigmentation will be visible. Within a week or two of the flaking being complete, the skin should be completely healed. A touch-up session will be recommended around 6 weeks following the initial microblading session to ensure that the skin has healed properly and to ensure that the desired results are achieved.
